Air audits - Air leaks check

Compressed air audits are an effective way to identify your current energy use and to assess your compressed air needs.

As well as carrying out an audit of your compressed air system, you should also include regular checks for air leaks in your maintenance routines too.

A simple leak detectioHow do I audit my compressed air?

Air audits can be as simple or as comprehensive as you require. A data-logging unit is attached to each compressor in your network for a fixed period of time. The results from the audit can then be used to analyse, for example, your air pressure requirements, power consumption and flow rate.

Our engineers can then provide recommendations that will help you to select the right size and mix of fixed and regulated-speed compressors. The compressed air audit may also identify if you need to switch to a new, more efficient machine, carry out further network improvements or pipework upgrades or if your compressor requires better control. We can then advise on any improvements that you can make to your network to help reduce leaks and, save money.

It is also worth knowing that a pipework system that is poorly sized, that has too many bends or fittings or which transports the air over long distances can reduce air pressure too. So at CompAir, we can also advise you on the best course of action to ensure your network is running at peak performance.

The top 5 targets of a compressed air audit are:

  • Air demand and supply - Make sure you have the right compressors to meet your demand efficiently
  • Plug the leaks - Air leaks are a costly waste of energy and money
  • Avoid over pressurisation - More pressure means more energy and increased risk of leaks, consider your requirements. Lowering system pressure may solve a lot of problems
  • Bad Piping - Old piping, incorrect sizing, too many bends and tees reduces the efficiency of your compressed air system
  • Maintain your Compressor System - Change Air/oil filters, separators and lubricants at the optimum time, not when they clog up and cause a pressure loss or damage to your compressor system
